Apple Snacks

apple 1It’s the time of year where there are apples EVERYWHERE! This is great but it does mean that we keep acquiring apples so we are constantly trying to think up new ways to use them. One thing Becskie loves is dried apples – apple chips! This is so easy its almost a cheat to make it into a blog post but……. they are mighty tasty and keep well in an airtight container for 1 – 2 weeks. Although ours will be gone before they have time to spoil – they are addictive!

apple 6Take an apple – we use cooking apples as we like the tart aspect but eating apples work just as well.

Slice it across as thinly as you possibly can. We are sure one can buy a gadget for this but we use a good old knife.

Lay them on a baking tray

Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar, we crushed ours to make it more powder-like and less likely to burn.

apple 3Bake for 1 hour at about 160c. Flip them and bake for a further hour. In order to see if they are done remove one from the oven and allow to cool – if it goes crispy its done, if it doesn’t bake some more!

Enjoy!

PS – Put in a glass jar with a pretty top and you have a great little gift for someone.

PPS – chop the dried apple and bake into muffins.

PPPS – use them instead of crackers when consuming late night cheese – they are AMAZING!

PPPPS – If you have a wood burner do them on top of that!
