Sunday night’s tea featured something Ian is very fond of – Onion Rings!
Back in supermarket days we would very very occasionally buy a bag of frozen onion rings but we can’t remember the last time we even had any. Now that we are supermarket free our house is completely empty of such frozen products and….. we are very glad. We don’t feel we are missing out at all especially as if we ever want such things that previously came in freezer bags we have to make our own from scratch and you know what homemade versions of convenience ‘treats’ are SOOOOO much better and really are easy to make!
So to prove how easy it is here is how we made onion rings. Oh and we can tell you they were very very tasty and easy peasy!
Sift the flour or run a fork through it then add the egg and milk and whisk until you have a smooth batter.
Heat a pan of oil – a good tip (we think from Jamie Oliver) is to add a small cube of potato to the cold oil, when the potato is a lovely golden brown the oil is hot enough!
Cut an onion into rings
Remove from the oil and place on some kitchen paper – serve immediately.
PS – We know they aren’t the healthiest of treats but……… everything in moderation and all that!
