So after our busy day yesterday we are totally tired! Life seems uber busy at the moment – tomorrow Becksie is holding a meeting to see who is interested in being part of a new hopefully fun and funky WI group in Faringdon so its once again action stations!
Our house is…. A mess! The washing basket is…. Full! The ironing pile is back with a vengeance! The freezer is dangerously low on batch cooked meals! There are emails and tweets we are yet to reply to! A million little jobs to do and its nearly Grandpa Pugh’s 21st birthday! But hey ho – we’ll be organised one day?! Maybe?!
So instead of tidying and cleaning and catching up we popped out to lunch (we didn’t pay so it doesn’t count hehe) and on the way we chatted about our year without supermarkets! Discussion turned to FAQ’s!! Now there are a few old chestnuts we get asked:
A) Do household items come from your £50 budget (the answer is sometimes we buy loo roll from the £50 but other items don’t but we really don’t spend that much on them (post about this coming soon))!
B) The second most frequently asked question is ‘isn’t it more expensive’? The answer is no! Well somethings probably are but then some things are totally cheaper and…. For us on the whole it is saving us loads!
And finally the third most frequently asked question is……
C) What items do you miss from the supermarket?
Well we’ve never been able to think of an answer – until today when three answers have finally come to us!
The first came whilst we were driving and chatting about year without supermarkets! CRUMPETS! We miss crumpets – hot buttered ones! But….. Never fear – we have a plan! We are going to make our own! All we were lacking was some cream of tartar but… Granny Pugh very kindly gave us some so……. watch out for a post about these buttery delights! Oh and we are planning to make a huge batch and freeze them! This will a) fill the freezer and b)help us with our breakfast mission!
Then we went for lunch and weirdly a second item popped into our heads! We miss frozen peas! Well……… 2 suggestions – 1) our local farm shop sells frozen vegetables so… We plan to check out if they have a pea or two! And 2) we have mastered growing pea shoots and we are planning to use our garden so very soon we will grow our own peas!
Now… Having sorted out those two problems we sat down for a spot of cake and a third item that is off limits due to being a supermarket product came to our attention! These little bad boys are Becksie’s dirty little secret! Becksie LOVES the cheapest of the cheap jam and cream rolls! Infact when she went into hospital to have Lizzie Granny and Grandpa Pugh (who know all about this little jam roll habit) smuggled a packet into the hospital and Becksie must confess that when everyone had left her and Lizzie at night she sat with a teeny tiny little Lizzie and she ate a whole packet (her blood sugar was low, she was tired and…. She loves them)! So Becksie does plan to try to make her own but…….she knows that this is one thing where homemade ones just won’t be quite the same!
There you go that’s Sunday night confession! But…. Never fear as much as Becksie misses them she will not enter a supermarket to purchase them!
